SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Gallaudet University’s indoor track and field season got underway for eight individuals from the men’s and women’s teams Friday night at the Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna University. No team scores were kept for this meet.
“I took some of our stronger runners to create a baseline for the outdoor season,” said Gallaudet coach Byron Moore, in his second season at the helm. “I was able to see things that we need to work on based on where we finished. Overall, it was a great learning experience for our freshmen runners to compete in their first collegiate track and field meet.”
GU’s top men’s relay team of junior Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.), sophomore John Isaacson (Clive, Iowa), senior Vianney Boum Yamb (Silver Spring, Md.) and freshman Dylan Rich (Brockton, Mass.) placed sixth overall in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:57.40. Isaacson finished 29th,in the 400-meter dash (56.49) while Rich was 29th in the 800-meter run (2:28.00). Rich did place 23rd in the 1-mile run (5:18.08). Freshman Montray Roberts (Dallas, Texas) placed 30th in the 200-meter dash (25.97) and 36th in the 60-meter dash (7.83).
On the women’s side, freshman Ivy Sahneyah (Tempe, Ariz.) finished 24th in the 3,000-meter run (13:57.81). Two Bison placed in the 400-meter dash, as senior Lindsey Corthell (Orlando, Fla.) was 10th (1:11.55) followed by freshman Jamila Hubbard (Montezuma, Ga.), just two places back, in 12th (1:28.87). Corthell and Hubbard also finished within two places of each other in the 200-meter dash as the senior finished 25th (31.71) followed by the freshman in 27th (36.71).
The Bison return to Susquehanna University in two weeks for the SU Open on Friday, Feb. 20, at 4 p.m.
