FAIRFAX, Va. – A small contingent of Gallaudet University’s men’s and women’s track and field program made the short trip Sunday to compete here in the George Mason University Last Chance Indoor Meet. Five different Bison competed in the final indoor meet for Gallaudet this season to fine tune things for the start of the outdoor season, which begins next weekend.
Freshman Shellane McKitty won her 200-meter dash heat with a time of 29.08 seconds, as she placed 23rd overall. Sophomore LaQuita Carroll (Spanish Fort, Ala.) placed 26th in the 200 with a time of 30.12 seconds. Carroll was 14th in the 60-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in 8.79 seconds. McKitty was 16th in the 60 with a time of 8.94 seconds.
Bison sprinter Vianney Boum Yamb (Silver Spring, Md.) had a rough start in the 60-meter dash and finished in 7.33 seconds (17th overall), off his normal sub seven seconds times. AJ McCrea (Kennesaw, Ga.) was 20th in the 60 as he posted a time of 7.59 seconds. John Isaacson was 20th in the 400-meter dash (58.46 seconds).
“I’m glad our student-athletes had this opportunity to compete indoors over the past few weeks. We are looking forward to the outdoor season,” said Gallaudet coach Mikaela Gardner. “We have been able to address and adjust some issues during the indoor season.”
GU will venture down to Salisbury, Md., to begin the outdoor track and field season on Saturday, March 8, at the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet.
