FROSTBURG, Md. – The Gallaudet University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed Saturday at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Frostburg State University. No team scores were kept at this invitational.
Sophomore LaQuita Carroll (Spanish Fort, Ala.) set a career mark in the long jump as she jumped 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3.25 inches). Carroll took sixth place in the 200-meter dash as she finished in 28.90 seconds.
GU’s 4x100 meter relay team of freshmen Lawjen Ashmore (Fairbanks, Alaska), Shellane McKitty, Bianca Hardin and Carroll finished fourth overall in 58.62 seconds. McKitty was fifth in the 100-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in 13.95 seconds while Ashmore was ninth (14.38). Junior Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16.80). Junior Rachel Young (Leesburg, Va.) took fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 23:30.72.
In the field events, senior Shelby Bean (Arvada, Colo.) placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 34.70 meters (113 feet, 10 inches)
Gallaudet will split its squad next weekend when some Bison student-athletes head south to Greensboro, N.C., to participate in the Aggie Invitational while other head north to Grantham, Pa., for the Messiah Invitational on Saturday, April 12.
