SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The indoor track and field season got underway for four individuals from the Gallaudet University men’s team Saturday at Susquehanna University in the Crusader Classic.
Junior sprinter Vianney Boum Yamb (Silver Spring, Md.) set new school marks in the 60-meter dash (7.17 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (23.63). Boum Yamb, this year's team captain, finished fourth overall in the 60-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash.
Sophomore Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.) made his collegiate debut in the indoor mile and won his heat with a time of 4:35.93. Close was 35th overall in the event as Susquehanna’s Colin Eberhardt placed first in 4:29.63.
AJ McCrea (Kennesaw, Ga.), a team co-captain for the Bison football team, and Miguel Paniagua (Baton Rouge, La.) made their indoor debuts in the 60 and 200-meter dash events. McCrea won his 60-meter heat in 7.59 seconds (37th overall) and Paniaqua crossed the finish line in 7.92 (53rd). In the 200-meter dash, McCrea was 32nd overall (24.82) while Paniaqua was 57th (26.59).
The Bison will return to Susquehanna University in two weeks for the SU Open on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m.
