SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men’s track and field team competed at the 9th annual Paul Kaiser Track and Field Classic on Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium. Over 20 schools from Pennsylvania, Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia participated.
Senior Darius Flowers (Birmingham, Ala.) broke his own school long jump record he set, two weeks ago, as he cleared 7.18 meters (23 feet, 5.5 inches) as he placed third in the event.
Sophomore Michael Haynes (Edwardsville, Ill.) finished 10th in the 110-meter hurdles as he crossed the finish line in 15.71 seconds. Freshman Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.) was 12th in the 400-meter dash (51.16) while freshman Jimel Wright (Chicago, Ill.) was 30th in the 100-meter dash as he set a new personal record of 11.88 seconds.
Freshman Ivan Alfaro (Yakima, Wash.) set a new personal record in the 5,000-meter run as he finished just over 17 minutes with a time of 17:01.21 in 24th place.
GU rested some student-athletes in preparations for the upcoming conference championships. The Bison had many other student-athletes compete in various events that had upwards to 40-50 competitors in a single event.
The Bison will next turn their attention to the Mason-Dixon outdoor championships being hosted by Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., on May 3-4.
