GRANTHAM, Pa. – A smaller contingent of men’s track and field athletes represented Gallaudet University at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday as several of the top Bison athletes were at the Aggie Invitational. GU finished 14th overall out of 14 teams as the host Falcons of Messiah College won the invitational with 179 points.
Freshman Ivan Alfaro (Yakima, Wash.) finished seventh in the 10,000-meter run as he crossed the finish line in just over 35 minutes (35:23.12). Freshman Jimel Wright (Chicago, Ill.) was eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.33 seconds. Junior Chris Davis (Stillwater, Okla.) finished 19th in the 1,500-meter run (4:38.04) and was 24th in the 800-meter run (2:16.93).
Freshman Rood Metulous (Bedford, N.Y.) was ninth in the long jump as he cleared 18 feet with a jump of 5.60 meters (18 feet, 4.5 inches).
Freshman Chris Richardson (Mobile, Ala.) was the top Bison in the shot put as he made a toss of 10.30 meters (33 feet, 9.5 inches). Junior Kenneth Montanez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was 17th in the javelin as he made a toss of 36.15 meters (118 feet, seven inches).
The Bison track and field teams will next compete Saturday, April 20, at the New Captains’ Classic hosted by Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.
