BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Junior Darius Flowers (Birmingham, Ala.) won the triple jump Saturday at the Dr. Harry GM Jopson Invitational on the campus of Bridgewater (Va.) College with a jump of 14.38 meters (47 feet, 2.25 inches) to set a new meet record. There were no team scores recorded for this meet.
Flowers teamed up with fellow junior Shawn Gordon-Davis (Union City, Ga.), freshman Vianney Boum Yamb (Silver Spring, Md.) on both team relays. The trio was joined by freshman Michael Haynes (Granite City, Ill.) in the 4x100 meter relay as GU finished third with a time of 44.61 seconds. Gallaudet finished second in the 4x400 relay as the trio was joined by freshman James Glenn (Wichita, Kan.) and finished with a time of 3:37.19.
Boum Yamb was fourth in the 100 meter dash with a blazing time of 11.34 seconds followed by Gordon-Davis in sixth place (11.69). In the 200 meter dash Gordon-Davis was seventh (23.48) while Glenn was fourth in the 400 meter dash (53.51 seconds). Haynes had a top three finish in the 110 meter hurdles as he placed third with a time of 16.04 seconds. Junior Griffin O’Hara (Colorado Springs, Colo.) took fifth place in the 3,000 meter run (11:31.12) while Davis was sixth in the 5,000 meter run (20:32.50).
Gallaudet will next participate in the Danny Curran Invitational next Saturday, March 31, when it travels to Widener University in Chester, Pa.
