SALISBURY, Md. - Freshman Darius Flowers (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) made a splash in his collegiate debut for the Gallaudet University men's track and field team on Saturday at the Salisbury University Spring Classic. Flowers won the triple jump with a leap of 14.20 meters to give the Bison 10 team points. Gallaudet finished sixth overall out of eight teams with 42 points. The host Sea Gulls from Salisbury won the classic with 201 points.
Sophomore Phillip Hayes (Baton Rouge, La.) was second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.48 seconds and third in the long jump with a leap of 6.15 meters to earn GU 14 points. Fellow sophomore Braden Painter (Frederick, Md.) took second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.33 seconds) and was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.71) to collect nine more points for the Buff and Blue.
The Bison 4x100 meter relay team placed third as Gallaudet finished in 46.34 seconds, to collect six points.
In the field events, senior Joshua Doudt (Medina, Ohio) picked up three points between the hammer and shot put. Doudt was fifth overall in the hammer with a toss of 22.54 meters and seventh in the shot put (9.73).
Gallaudet will next compete in the Battleground Relays hosted by University of Mary Washington on March 19-20 in Fredericksburg, Va.
