Gallaudet swimmers continue improvement

Led by a group of rapidly improving underclassmen, the Gallaudet Swim Team put in numerous best times, and broke four team records, at the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Swim Championships February 9 - 11, 2007.

The outstanding swimmer of the meet was sophomore Michael Hubbs who placed individually in the 100 and 200 Breastroke, broke the team record in the 100 Backstroke (1:00.64), and participated in three relays that smashed all-time Gallaudet bests: 200 Medley Relay (1:54.8), 200 Free Relay (1:38), 400 Free Relay (3:39).

Other swimmers who scored championship points included junior female captain Kandace Morris (butterfly, all relays), junior co-captain David Torres (100 Fly, 800 Free Relay, 400 Medley Relay), junior co-captain Scott Madsen (200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay), sophomore Ryan Kobylarz (200, 400, 800 Free Relays), freshman Kris Lauderbaugh (all relays), sophomore Angela Cassinelli (1650 Free, 200 and 400 Free Relays, and 400 Medley Relay), sophomore Jodi Winkelmann (200 and 400 Medley Relay, and 800 Free Relay), sophomore Marissa Larson (400 and 800 Free Relays), junior Susanna Krige (200 Free Relay), sophomore Jen Talbot (all relays), sophomore Tyler DeShaw (800 Free Relay, 200 Fly and 400 IM) and freshman phenom Ben Taylor (200 Medley and Free Relays, 400 Free Relay).

Gallaudet also saluted seniors Jessica Mikolay and Silvia Herdicka, who swam in their last meets for the Aqua-Bison.   "We are already looking toward next year and the US Deaf National Swim Championships this April in Michigan," said head coach Bill Snape.
