Tatum Leads Gallaudet to New York Sweep

There is no more challenging place to play basketball then New York City, and the Gallaudet men's basketball team took the challenge head on, winning both games, 87-82 over Medgar Evers College and 64-58 over City College of New York, to go 7-2 on the season.

Capital Athletic Conference player of the week Tony Tatum led Gallaudet in scoring both games.  Against Medgar Evers he delighted the crowd, which included many Gallaudet alumni from the New York City area, with 23 points.  Sekoe White had another big game adding 21 points, and Jon Mowl added 20.

Tatum shot 7-14 and scored 17 points to lead 4 Bison players against City College of New York. Johnny Jackson, Jr. was 4-5 and scored 15 points. Chi Pun played his best game of the year scoring 12 points.  White added 11. White led Gallaudet rebounders with 8, and Pun and Tatum added 7. For the game, Gallaudet outrebounded CCNY 38-32.

The competition promises to get tougher next week as Gallaudet resumes CAC play Wednesday, January 7, at 8 pm in the Gallaudet Field House when they face Hood College (3-6).  On Saturday, January 10 at 4 pm, they face Stevenson (2-8).

Despite the strong start to the season, Gallaudet Head Coach Jeb Barber knows the road will be tougher the rest of the season. Coach Barber said, "It was a hard fought win in a hostile environment. However our play needs to be better when playing CAC teams. "

Coach Barber was also thrilled to see the alumni support at the games.  "It was nice to see the gym filled with Gallaudet alumni, especially at a road game.  I was happy to see that and the support made a difference in the outcome."
