Sekoe White Sinks Two Free Throws With Two Seconds Left to Lead Gallaudet Over Hood

Every child in America dreams of this opportunity.  The game is tied. There are less than 3 seconds left. You are at the free throw line. Miss and the game goes into overtime. Make the free throws and your team wins. Tonight, Sekoe White's dream came true. He was at the free throw line with two seconds left and the game tied. Sekoe calmly made both free throws to clinch a 73-71 win for Gallaudet.

This was a game that was as close as the final score indicates.  Everyone in the building knew this one would come down to the final seconds. Hood led ten separate times in the game.  Gallaudet took the lead 6 times. The game was tied 12 separate times, including the game's final minute and 17 seconds, leading to White's free throws.

White was huge down the stretch, and had no intention of riding back to Washington DC, until his team won. He had 5 assists in a five minute stretch of the game's final 7 minutes, as he constantly found open teammates, passing the ball to Jeremy Thrush, Tony Tatum, and Johnny Jackson, Jr. for open shots.  White also scored 7 points in the games final 9 minutes, with two coming off a steal and lay-up, and the other five on free throws.

Gallaudet passed the ball well today, taking smart shots, and making their shots when they were open.  As a team, Gallaudet shot 50%, going 24-48 from the floor.  Gallaudet was even better from the foul-line, making 24-30 free throws, good for 80% accuracy.

White finished the game with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Thrush came off the bench to score 15 points and grab 4 rebounds. Jackson had 10 points and 5 rebounds. Jon Mowl scored 10 points and had 4 steals and 3 assists.

Today's win, which puts Gallaudet back at .500, with a 10-10 record, was due to the hard work of the Gallaudet players and the bonding they have done throughout the season.  Gallaudet Head Coach Jeb Barber mentioned this in his post game comments.  "This was a great team win. Everyone has stayed positive and continued playing hard for the same goal...to win games."

The win is Gallaudet's first Capital Athletic Conference win of the year, despite several close calls, including an overtime game. Coach Barber said, "It feels good to get the monkey off our backs."

Gallaudet next plays on Wednesday at Stevenson College. The previous time, the two teams played this year, it was a see-saw battle, with Stevenson ending up on top by 3.
