Bison fall to Hood 124-120 in double overtime; records broken

FREDERICK, MD—The Bison had a record night as they fell to the Blazers of Hood College 124-120 in double overtime.

Junior guard Jon Mowl broke a pair of 17-year-old records that had previously been set by Anthony Jones in 1991. Mowl’s 44 points, including 10 three-pointers eclipsed Jones’ record of 43 points and 9 three-pointers, which had been in a February 16, 1991 matchup against Marymount University. The Fishers, Indiana native also had a team-high 6 assists.

Mowl’s performance tied Robert Haney and Brian Bippus’ single game record of 14 field goals made. Bippus set the record in a February 7, 1991 game against Marymount, while Haney made his mark January 13, 2003 (Goucher) and again February 21, 2004 (Marymount).

Fellow Bison also shared in the career night. Guard Lance Gonzalez recorded a personal best 29 points, with freshman Dan Fava notching the first double-double of his career. Fava finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Chi Ming Pun and Onye Davis each finished with 11 points, while Johnny Jackson, Jr. led the rebounding effort, pulling down 12 caroms.

The Bison (5-15, 3-8 CAC) will attempt to pick up another win against Villa Julie College at the Field House on Wednesday, February 6. Tip time is set for 6:00 p.m.
