Marymount survives Bison rally, wins 65-57

WASHINGTON, DC--Gallaudet opened its conference schedule at home against the Marymount University Saints with a 65-57 loss. The Bison did not let the visitors get ahead more than five points for most of the first half, which went through six lead changes. Marymount pulled away in the final 3 minutes off long-range shots and visits to the charity stripe. Gallaudet cut a 14-point Saint lead to 10 in the closing half’s 1:15 to take some momentum into the locker room.

Saint forward Fred Stanback led the offenses with a game-high 10 points in the first half with Bison guard Jon Mowl’s 7 leading the Buff and Blue. The Bison were right behind the Saints in field goal percentage, shooting 36% to the visitors’ 37%.

Gallaudet overcame a 21-point deficit in the second half to close within five before missed scoring opportunities re-built the Saint lead to 8.

Jon Mowl finished with 16 points, 2 assists and a steal, while Lance Gonzalez backed the Buff and Blue with a personal season-high 14 points. Johnny Jackson put in 10 to round out the home team’s scoring leaders. Forward Onye Davis had a team-high 9 rebounds, and sank a trey from the top of the key as time expired.

Marymount's  Mike Gray posted two game-highs, 21 points and 12 boards. The Saints had a four-point advantage over Gallaudet in the second half, netting 35 to the Bison’s 31.

The Bison (0-5, 0-1 CAC) continue conference play as they host Wesley College on Saturday, December 1 at 2:00 p.m. at home in the Field House.
