Union bests Gallaudet, 98-61

WASHINGTON, DC--Bison guard Jon Mowl posted a 23-point effort as Gallaudet fell to Union College 98-61. The Buff and Blue are also playing host to Widener University and Gwynedd-Mercy College in the annual Gallaudet Holiday Invitational Tournament.
Union jumped out front on a 12-0 opening scoring run as they made 4 out of their first 6 three-point attempts. Nick DiMaggio would finish the night posting 17 points and making 5 of 8 long-range attempts. Guard Steve Madej put up a game-high 24 points as he made 7 of his 9 attempts. Drew Desmarais posted a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds and posting 15 points.
Over the second half, Gallaudet scored 34 points to Union's 42. The Bison defense stepped up, containing Union's long-range shooting to just 4 treys out of 11 attempts, compared with 13 out of 18 in the first half.
Chi Ming Pun had 10 points and was 6-for-8 from the charity stripe, while Mowl's performance produced 4 out of 5 three-pointers to go with his 6-for-12 from the field. Johnny Jackson had 9 points, with Onye Davis adding 8 and pulling down a team-high 7 rebounds.
Gallaudet (0-3, 0-0 CAC) takes on Gwynedd-Mercy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in the consolation game, followed by a Widener-Union matchup in the championship game at 3. The women start their tournament at 6, with the Bison taking on Meredith at 8 p.m.
