WASHINGTON - A final day push by the Gallaudet fan base helped to lead the Bison to a thrilling comeback win over Kennesaw State University in the national semifinal of the first Helmet Bowl run by Helmet Tracker, who is seeking to find the best college football helmet in the country through online voting by fans.

The Gallaudet football helmet advances to the first Helmet Bowl National Championship match where it will go up against San Diego State University, the No. 3 seed from the West Region.

Fans can vote daily from all of their devices and browsers here: The week-long voting period will close on Monday, Jan. 8, at 5 p.m. (EST).

Gallaudet, the world's only university in which all programs and services are specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students, is a NCAA Division III program. GU, the No. 4 seed in the East Region, is the last helmet among all levels of college football not in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Bison will carry the flag for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA into the final match-up against San Diego St., a FBS program.

The Bison football helmet made a huge surge on the last day of voting as it garnered over 3,000 votes in the final 24 hours thanks to its strong social media presence and posts on its @GallaudetBison platforms. GU won 52 percent to 48 percent over the Owls from Kennesaw St. as the final score showed 6,254 to 5,747.

Gallaudet's path to the national championship has seen them dispatch several Division I powerhouse names like No. 6 seed The Ohio State University Buckeyes in the second round, the No. 8 seed Colgate University Raiders in the third round and the No. 3 seed United States Military Academy West Point (Army) in the quarterfinals. GU won the East Region with a sound 59 percent to 41 percent victory over the Black Knights.
