WASHINGTON – The 2017 Gallaudet University football schedule has been finalized and officially announced by eighth-year head coach Chuck Goldstein. The schedule features five home games and five road games for the Bison, who posted a 2-8 overall record and was 1-6 in seven Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) games last season.
"We can't wait to get things rolling in August with training camp. We have an experienced and mature team returning, plus the addition of a talented freshman class, that will help us take the next step," said Goldstein. "We have an ambitious and challenging schedule as we welcome two new members into the ECFC this season. We are excited to see our supportive fans out in force at Hotchkiss Field this fall to cheer on the Bison!"
Gallaudet opens the season in Winchester, Va., on Saturday, Sept. 2, under the lights at 7 p.m. against Shenandoah University in a non-conference game. This will mark the fifth consecutive year the two schools have opened the season against each other. SU holds a 6-5 series edge over the Bison after last year's victory. The Bison will open its home slate on Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. against Greensboro College. GU will welcome Union (N.Y.) College to Hotchkiss Field the following weekend (Sept. 16 at 1 p.m.) before a bye week. Gallaudet closes out the month with its first conference game at Mount Ida on Sept. 30 at noon. The remainder of the schedule will feature seven more conference contests.
The Bison will be home three of the four weekends in October. Gallaudet begins the month welcoming Anna Maria College to campus on Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. Gallaudet will make a trek to Alfred, N.Y., on Oct. 14 to play ECFC newcomer Alfred State College at 1 p.m. The Bison return to the friendly confines of Hotchkiss Field for a homecoming contest against defending ECFC champion Husson University on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. GU will celebrate its senior class on Saturday, Oct. 28, at noon with a home game against ECFC newcomer Dean College (Mass.).
The month of November opens in Castleton, Vt., as the Bison take on the Spartans from Castleton University on Nov. 4 at noon. GU will wrap-up the regular-season schedule the following weekend against rival SUNY Maritime on Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. This will mark the ninth consecutive year these two programs have ended the regular season playing each other.
Gone from the ECFC is Becker College and Norwich University. Becker joins The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) while Norwich joins the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) for football.
