GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) released its 2017 baseball all-conference awards on Wednesday and Gallaudet University sophomore shortstop Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) was named to the all-conference second team for the second consecutive year.
Upton led the team in eight offensive categories; batting average (.356), hits (47), doubles (9), slugging percentage (.455), on-base percentage (.399), RBI (27), stolen bases (12). He also accumulated 19 runs, two triples and 10 walks and finished the season with a fielding percentage of .890. Upton leads the NEAC in assists (113), second in games (39), third in hits (47), at bats (132), fourth in stolen bases (12) and sixth in plate appearances (143).
Penn St.-Berks sophomore Toby Welk, last year's NEAC Rookie of the Year, was named the 2017 NEAC Baseball Player of the Year. Welk led the conference in hits (59), doubles (14), triples (5), RBI (43) and total bases (95). Lancaster Bible College senior Nate Burns was named Pitcher of the Year while freshman Ben Flicker from Penn College took home Rookie of the Year honors. The NEAC Coach of the Year went to Joe Pavlow of Penn St.-Abington for a second straight year as he led the Nittany Lions to a third-straight regular season championship with an 11-3 conference record.
This selection now gives Gallaudet 23 All-NEAC honors since it joined the conference in 2010-11. Nine of the 21 selections have been on the first team and 14 on the second team. The Bison baseball program also has three Player of the Year, two Pitcher of the Year and two Coach of the Year award winners in their history in the NEAC.
