The Bison (8-5) were leading the Rangers 4-1 before Gallaudet used a five-run seventh inning to blow the game wide open. The Rangers (5-3) scored at least one run in the final four innings but the Gallaudet pitchers kept Drew at a distance.
Gallaudet got on the board first in the top of the first inning with a single by sophomore center fielder William Bissell (Brewer, Maine) that scored sophomore first baseman Jeremy Murphy (Owings Mills, Md.). The Bison tallied three more runs in the top of the fifth inning that included a two-run single by senior right fielder William Chapman (Los Angeles, Calif.).
Chapman highlighted the five-run seventh with a two-run triple. The triple scored both Bissell and junior shortstop Tommy Barksdale (Brookeville, Md.). Freshman second baseman JJ Klein (Cincinnati, Ohio) also had an RBI in the inning. Gallaudet put the game on ice in the top of the ninth when Klein drove home junior outfielder Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.).
Bissell was one of six Bison to have a multi-hit game as he drove in two runs and scored twice while going 3-for-5 from the plate. Klein also was a key contributor as he finished the day 3-for-6 with two RBI. Chapman had a game-high four RBI.
Gallaudet got a solid outing from sophomore pitcher Marcus Smith (Baltimore, Md.), who worked seven innings and fanned five Ranger batters while giving up just four hits to improve his record to 2-1. Chapman also pitched 1.1 innings and struck out two batters. Sophomore pitcher Justin Wiener (Woodbine, Md.) closed out the game by pitching a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.
Tom Murray led Drew at the plate with a 3-for-4 day with a RBI. Pete Tuchol drove in a run after going 2-for-4. Tom Koontz (1-1) took the lost for the Rangers as he pitched six innings and struck out five batters.
