Gallaudet Makes Dramatic Comeback to go 2-0

Entering the sixth inning of a seven inning game, Gallaudet was losing 9-5, and seemed to be on the way to their first loss of the season. But Gallaudet refused to lose. Keeping their heads up, the Bison staged a dramatic sixth inning rally when every player batted, and Gallaudet scored six runs,, to take an 11-9 lead into the seventh. Ohio State-Mansfield managed just one run in the seventh, and Gallaudet had their second win of the season 11-10, to go 2-0.

Jeremy Shepps got things started in the sixth with a triple and scored the first Gallaudet run of the inning.  Other players who scored in the sixth were John Moore, Jr. who was hit by a pitch to get on base; Ryan Hastings who walked, Kyle Kuschmider who walked; Chester Kuschmider with a fielders choice; and Erik Ellis who walked.

Shepps, Hastings, C. Kuschmider, and Ellis all scored two runs in the game for the Bison, who went through an exciting top of the seventh to clinch the win.  The first three batters for Ohio State-Mansfield got on base in the top of the inning, and the score was 11-10 with two men on base, and nobody out.  The next batter hit into a fielder's choice at third base. The last two batters hit fly balls to left field and center field, and Gallaudet could breathe easily, with their second win to start the season.

The second game of the double header was a different story, as Ohio State-Mansfield jumped to a 7-0 first inning lead, and 15-3 by the third, and Gallaudet was never able to make it close. The final score was 21-6, to send Gallaudet to 2-1.

Gallaudet Head Coach Curtis Pride found good things from his team today and things that need to be worked on.  "I'm happy that we split.  We played well the first game.  I like how we battled back after being down by 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth.  We played good defense."  As for the second game, Coach Pride said, "Our pitchers didn't have any control and gave up too many walks." Coach Pride looks forward to the rest of the season.  "We will be fine.  It's early in the season."

Tomorrow, Gallaudet will play one more game with Ohio-State Mansfield at noon on Hoy Field.  Admission is free.
