Bison rally falls short against PSU-Berks
WASHINGTON, D.C.--Gallaudet started a late rally with a five-run eighth inning in an effort to catch up to PSU-Berks. The rally fell short as the visitors took the game, 22-10.
The Bison did not let a 10-run first inning by the visitors deter them; they kept fighting despite the gap in the score. They started in the bottom of the first, picking up a pair of runs off four hits before Bill Jacobs grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Gallaudet did not create any scoring opportunities until the bottom of the fifth, when catcher Ryan Lentz picked up a RBI double, bringing Kevin Alley and Zane Noschese home.
In the seventh, facing the game being called on account of the 10-run mercy rule--the score was 19-5--Christian Deaton and Warren Keller reached on errors. Freshman Barry Ohlsson singled, bringing Deaton and Keller home.
John Moore, Jr. singled and then stole second, with Ohlsson taking third base. Kevin Alley had a RBI triple, bringing the runners home. Freshman Zane Noschese singled, bringing Alley home. After a pitching change, Ryan Lentz popped up to end the inning. The game continued, since the Bison had come closer, 19-10.
In the next inning, the visitors scored three runs off four hits and padded their lead, 22-10. The Buff and Blue could not convert a bases-loaded situation to continue the rally in the bottom of the eighth.
Gallaudet (0-6, 0-4 CAC) travels to Wesley College on Saturday, March 8 in a conference doubleheader. The first pitch is set to go at noon.
