Gallaudet University athletics places tenth in 2011-12 NEAC President's Cup standings

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Gallaudet University athletics program placed tenth out of 13 schools in the final North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) President’s Cup standings announced by NEAC Commissioner Candice Poiss Murray at the annual conference retreat at the end of May.

The Bison finished tenth overall in the men’s standings and was 11th in the women’s standings. GU fields six teams that compete on the women’s side (basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, swimming, volleyball) and five on the men’s side (baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming). The NEAC President’s Cup standings for men’s, women’s and overall are determined by percentage and not total points earned because some schools don’t support all 16 sports sponsored by the conference.

Gallaudet had an overall percentage of 44.62 percent as the Bison tallied 41.5 points out of a possible 93. The Bison women’s programs accumulated 25 points out of a possible 54 (46.3 percent) as they finished 11th. On the men’s side, Gallaudet totaled 16.5 points out of a possible 39 (42.3 percent) to edge out Lancaster Bible College.

SUNYIT repeated as the overall winner for a third straight year as the Wildcats had a 66.99 overall percentage to edged Penn St.-Harrisburg (65.38) and Keuka College (63.82) in the final standings. Keuka won the women’s standings trophy with 73.8 percent while Morrisville St. took top billing in the men’s standings with 78.4 percent.

The Bison claimed 2011-12 NEAC championships in women’s volleyball and men’s swimming. Last year, Gallaudet finished fourth overall with 47.5 points (64.19 percent).
