The honorees are from volleyball, senior libero Shana Lehmann (Frederick, Md.), and from men's soccer, sophomore goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana).
Lehmann helped the Gallaudet volleyball program post a 14-5 record during the month of October as the Bison secured third-place in the Capital Athletic Conference regular-season standings. The senior made 454 digs in 67 sets played (6.77 digs per set) and tallied 23 assists and 10 service aces. Her best match of the month came the first day of October when the Bison lost a tough 3-2 CAC match to University of Mary Washington at home. She was named to the all-tournament teams at the Fredonia Invitational (Oct. 2-3) and Worthington Classic (Oct. 9-10). Lehmann capped off the month of October with CAC Player of the Week honors for her play at the Seahawk Invitational (Oct. 30-31).
"Shana is a special player in Gallaudet's volleyball history," said GU volleyball coach Lynn Ray Boren. "She is the best defensive player we have had in the program for a long time. She is an excellent passer who could read opponent's hitting patterns. She is a formidable player and will be a tough to be replaced for years to come. I always respect her because her parents raised her right and taught her very well on and off the volleyball court."
Qobose made 77 of his 214 season saves during the month of October as the Bison went 0-7 against four Capital Athletic Conference teams and three non-conference opponents. For the month of October he made a best 18 saves against Southern Virginia University on October 10 on the road in a 5-0 loss. He posted a save percentage of .611 as he faced 228 shots.
