WASHINGTON, D.C.—Welcome to the first mailing of the Gallaudet Athletics e-newsletter! Gallaudet Athletics has officially released its fall 2008 sports schedule. All fall sports with the exception of football will participate in Capital Athletic Conference competition as well as non-conference games. The 2008 season will be the last independent season for the Bison football program. In 2009, the Bison will be a member of the North Atlantic Conference. Cross Country will return to the fall slate, with schedule and details forthcoming.

Football
2007 Record: 4-6
Overview: The Bison open at home against Hiram College on Saturday, September 6 at 1:30 p.m. The Buff and Blue will continue their home stand in another match-up against St. Vincent College on September 13. Gallaudet won 2007’s match-up against the Bearcats 32-13. The next three games are on the road, against Greensboro College (9/20), Becker College (10/4) and Maritime College (10/10), before the Homecoming game against Southern Virginia University on October 18, at 2:00 p.m. Next up is a return to the road against Husson College on October 25, with a pair of home games against Mt. Ida College (11/1) and Senior Day against Williamson Trade (11/8). Gallaudet will close out the season on the road against Wesley College on November 15.

Volleyball
2007 Record: 24-12, 7-1 CAC
CAC Regular-Season Champions
Postseason: CAC Tournament Semifinals
Overview: Gallaudet will look to continue its upward mobility within the volleyball program. Coach Lynn Boren has put together a 36-game schedule for the team, with seven tournaments and conference match-ups. The Bison open on the road at the Haverford Invitational on the weekend of August 30. The following weekend, September 5-6, the Buff and Blue go to the Gettysburg Invitational. Conference play opens on September 10 at Marymount University—the Bison took all six of 2007’s games against the Saints. Other tournaments of note will be at the Stevens, DePauw, McDaniel and Scranton weekend games. Gallaudet closes out the conference slate at home against Salisbury University on October 29. The final tournament of the season is at Elizabethtown on October 31-November 1, with the CAC tournament starting later that week.

Men’s Soccer
2007 Record: 0-17, 0-9 CAC
Overview: The Buff and Blue travel to upstate New York for the Rochester Institute of Technology tournament on August 30-31. The home opener is set for September 24 in a conference match-up against Wesley College. Gallaudet will play teams such as Southern Virginia University, Penn State-Harrisburg, Shepherd University, and Lincoln University in addition to regularly scheduled conference games. The Homecoming Weekend match-up is set for 2:35 p.m. on Saturday, October 18 against the Canadian Deaf Provincial Team. The conference tournament will run from November 2 through November 5.

Women’s Soccer
2007 Record: 0-14-1, 0-7 CAC
Overview: Sarah Gumina is hired as head coach, effective in 2008-09. The Bison will open at home against Goucher College on September 4. The 2008 slate includes a mix of conference and non-conference match-ups. Gallaudet has two new additions to the schedule, Medger Evers, Penn State-Harrisburg, and Juniata College, with the Juniata game being on Homecoming Weekend (12:00 noon on October 18).  The conference tournament will run from November 1 through November 4.
